TGW’s legacy is rooted in Sheffield, England, a city recognized as the cutlery center of the world for centuries. That history reaches back to 1745, when the first Wolstenholme cutlery products were made. The lineage continued through generations of cutlers, including the shortening of the family name to “Wostenholm” and the acquisition of historic Sheffield cutlery trademarks.

In 1908, Thomas Gilbert Wolstenholme established Wolstenholme Machine Knives, a factory functioning as a single-source provider and developing strategic supply relationships with many of the leading manufacturers and knife companies throughout the UK and Europe. Seeing a large market with strong growth potential, the company began exporting to the United States in 1964. TGW International was then established in the greater Cincinnati area in 1994 as a subsidiary company to further expand North American sales.

Fun Fact: The TGW name comes from Thomas Gilbert Wolstenholme’s initials!

Over the following decades, TGW consolidated its Sheffield facilities into a modern production site, opened a manufacturing facility in Indore, India, and in 2013 rebranded the various companies under the Wolstenholme Machine Knives banner as the TGW Group, focusing on the TGW brand.
